The Natural History Museum is relocating millions of items to a new facility in Shinfield.
The new research and digitisation centre in the Thames Valley Science Park is expected to be completed by 2027 and fully operational by 2031.
The centre will feature cryogenic facilities for specimen preservation and will share its data and findings globally to support research on issues like climate change, food supply, and pandemics.
The development is part of a masterplan with the University of Reading, which also includes new housing.
The move aims to enhance the museum's capability in global scientific research and preservation efforts.
